Official sources first

Every licensing or regulatory claim on FishingBuddy links to the responsible official source — a provincial or territorial government page, or Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) — placed directly beside the claim. Where a rule varies by Fisheries Management Zone or water body, we say so explicitly rather than publishing a single number.

Verification dates

Guides carry a visible "last verified" date in the About This Guide box at the end of the page. That date reflects the most recent check of the page's regulatory content against official sources. Between checks, provinces can change rules at any time — the official regulations always take precedence over anything published here.

What we don't do

  • We don't give one Canada-wide answer to legal questions (age thresholds, seasons, size or bag limits), because no such answer exists.
  • We don't accept payment for editorial recommendations. Partner placements are commercial listings and are always labelled.
  • We don't publish location recommendations without confirmed public access.

How locations and gear are selected

City fishing spots are selected for public accessibility, consistent reports of the listed species, and suitability for shore or small-boat anglers. Gear recommendations favour widely available equipment across multiple price points; we list example street prices as ranges and note that they change.

Corrections

If you find an error — a stale regulation, a wrong price, a spot that's no longer accessible — email hello@fishingbuddy.ca with the page and the issue. We review correction reports within two business days, fix confirmed errors, and update the page's verification date.

Partner content

FishingBuddy is funded by clearly labelled placements from fishing businesses. Placements never affect editorial content, rankings, or recommendations, and partners have no preview or approval rights over our guides. Details on the partners page.
