An independent field guide to fishing in Canada.
FishingBuddy exists to answer the practical questions every Canadian angler has before a trip: what licence do I need, where should I go, when, and with what gear.
What FishingBuddy is
FishingBuddy is an independent editorial project covering recreational fishing across all thirteen Canadian provinces and territories. We publish guides on licensing, seasons, species, gear, and publicly accessible fishing locations — written for beginners and returning anglers who want a clear starting point rather than scattered forum threads.
We are not affiliated with any provincial or federal government, licensing authority, or gear manufacturer.
How we work
- Every regulatory claim links to the official provincial, territorial, or federal source beside the claim itself.
- Guides carry a visible "last verified" date, and we re-check regulatory content against official sources when provinces publish updates.
- Because rules in Canada vary by province, zone, and individual water body, we deliberately avoid single Canada-wide answers to legal questions.
- Location recommendations favour spots with confirmed public access.
The full detail is in our editorial policy, including how to report an error.
How the site is funded
FishingBuddy is funded by a small number of clearly labelled partner placements from tackle shops, guides, charters, and lodges. Partners never influence editorial recommendations, and placements are always marked as such. If you run a fishing business, see partnering with FishingBuddy.
